Ashley Gardens is a great place to pull up your caravan/campervan as it is in such close proximity to Melbourne and there is public transport right out the front. Staff are friendly, and very willing to offer any assistance required.
Going into Melbourne city is a must, shop shop shop, eat at one of the many laneway cafe's, enjoy the unique atmosphere, Werribee Zoo is worth a visit and the fantastic collection at the NGV. I would however avoid walking around the Footscray/Braybrook area late at night as it can be a little rough, inside the caravan park is safe and secure though.
